      Koi playing in the rain

It’s been raining a few days in a row in Bakersfield ca.

I was lucky enough to video my herd playing in the rain?

Are you guys getting rain on your ponds?

I have always wondered if they thought food was hitting the surface of the water.

I think it increases the oxygen and in general the rain water is softer and contains less tds than most source water.

Then give them a little food. I'm sticking to my thoughts. My friends pond lowers in TDs after lots of rain. Also you have no aeration in your pond and the filter is not providing oxygen like many think.

My koi would do that as soon as it started raining. My best guess is it was the same sound to them as pellets hitting the water. They would do the same thing with a number of dragonflies tapping on the water. My TDS never changed that much unless it was a substantial rain amount. If that was the case, I always made sure to buffer my water sufficiently to avoid pH fluctuations.

Still learning as I go but y'all can call me Marilyn

the only time I saw koi playing in the rain some girl was chasing after them with a koi net down the street after a hurricane.... the "rain" was more than the ditches could handle.
