      Any Info on This Koi??

For starters, I know absolutely nothing about koi. I rescued this little guy about a week ago from some kids who wanted to see how long it would take for him to freeze in a bucket of water outside. At the moment he is hanging out in my bare bottom 55 gal with my two tiny goldfish, until I can get him his own little bachelor pad. He is eating goldfish flakes and spinach. What is he? Anything special? Just an average little fish? I have no idea what I'm doing. Any info on him would be appreciated!

Added pics. For size reference, the little yellow goldfish next to him is about an inch long.

      Do you have a picture?
Here's a tutorial if you're not sure how to post one:

I added pics to my first post You can't really tell how much in the pictures, but he's really really shiny! Under my aquarium lights he's almost got a rainbow thing going on because of how shiny his scales are. I don't know if that matters when identifying him or not. He also lost some scales thrashing around in the bucket, but it doesn't seem to be bothering him. Will he grow them back?

Possibly a lemon harawake but pretty young. Could be a yamabuki also.

You are truly a lifesaver Ezra! You may want to get some actual Koi food for the little guy. I don't know how committed you are / how much you want to or can invest, but if you can try for a really good quality food rather than "pet grade" like Tetra. You already went above and beyond just saving him. Maybe there's a pond store nearby? If you buy the small pellets your goldfish will probably eat them too (which is ok).

a few other points that might help:

Be prepared for more cleaning / water exchanges because Koi generate a lot of waste. It won't be long before he outgrows that tank.

Watch your pH / KH because Koi are sensitive to pH fluctuations. A solid KH will keep your pH steady.

Please keep us posted on his progress! and Welcome to Koiphen!

Leave it in with the goldfish, since they are already exposed to each other. They do better with buddies (even little ones).
