      Well. That's odd.

Are you sure you aren't using the GH solution instead of KH?

It should be blue w/ the first drop and then when it changes, it will go to yellow.

If it's the correct reagent and your test tube is showing yellow or orange after only one drop (after shaking/mixing it) it could indicate that you have a 1° KH (17.9ppm). In other words, almost zero.

Update on Koi. Both are now eating. The ulcers look better but not 100% yet. Have been waiting to do parasite treatment when I could open the window after putting the stuff in the pond. Looks like it will be 45-50 for the next 3 days. Not too crazy about breathing in the product or my animals breathing in the product. Finally got the water stable on ammonia in the isolation tank. It does go blue on the first drop. It goes to light yellow on the 4th drop. The instructions said bright yellow. My test never shows bright yellow just a very pale yellow.

If they are healing and showing no unusual behavior. Why use other chemicals to treat for parasites?

You cannot use any Terminate/Proform C or similar in water that is colder than 50 degrees. The water MUST be warmer.

You do not need to open a window.

      Thumbs up

This is for the isolation tank (170 gallons - 72 degrees - heated in basement) and the other large tank (350 gallons - 60 degrees - not heated in basement). Not treating the outside pond until it warms up. Good to know I don't need to open a window. The fish I had in my bathroom I was very concerned about treating them and breathing in the fumes

It was recommended by the members on this post. They could have parasites on them or inside them.

Than you have been misinformed. Moving a koi into a qt would have triggered parasite increase as the koi is stressed. Two weeks later and no signs of parasitic behavior or swimming behavior? But koi is healing well with no issues. Forget about using chemicals to treat something you do not have. Chemicals are not healthy and stress koi. Should only be used when parasites are confirmed through SS or behavioral symptoms and all other possibilities eliminated.

I agree with KDH, if you had parasites, the wounds would not heal until you got rid of the parasites. The fact that they are healing means they probably do not have parasites.

*Sedate the fish with clove oil and put on a surface that it won't slide off. I create a cradle out of small towels and lay plastic on it so the fish stays wet and doesn't rub it's slime coat off on something dry/abrasive.
*Put a moist paper towel over the exposed eye
*Put a little Tricide powder in a pile on top of a baggie (don't dip in the package. Important. You don't want moisture in the product)
*Take a qtip and get it wet by gently rubbing on the with the fish's slime coat....dip it in the pile of powder
*Gently* "work" it into the ulcerated areas, continuing to create a paste out of the powder and slime coat until there is Tricide on all wounds. It will goop up on the qtip so just keep kind of wiping it back on the fish
*Leave it on for 2-3 minutes (feels like eternity lol)
*Wipe it off gently and return koi to pond/QT and revive

Close Tricide package tightly, put in a ziploc and store in the freezer. This saves a LOT of product and you don't have to repeat the process on the fish
This is my preferred way of using Tricide-Neo

Neosporin is actually a good alternative as well. You do have to make sure the area you are applying it to is dry though. Once you have dried the area you can use a q-tip to rub it on the affected area.

Do you sedate them to apply the Neosporin too? My small koi had a hard time coming out of sedation last time. He still have one ulcer that needs more treatment.

I do, yes, because you need to dry off the area you are applying the Neosporin.

Might try reducing the amount of sedation. Sooner you treat the better.

He wasn't very heavily sedated even though he rolled over in the clove water and I was able to pick him up. He kept flipping his tail as I treated him. I guess I wanted him to revive faster. He was pretty sick and not eating at the time. He is now eating and much better.

Yep. I am going to use that this weekend. I was just trying to get away with not sedating again

Sometimes it just take them a while to wake up. If it was your first time sedating, time was probably racing
by and might have seemed longer than it really was! I know I was sweating bullets the whole time, but
it gets easier when you kind of know what to expect.
