      New Years Pictures

Just a few from today to welcome the winter solstice, the trend to longer days and to wish all a happy new year. I didn't have time to upload them all, but I was glad to see my office bat is back! I don't know much about bats, but this one ( or a similar looking one ) has appeared the last few years when the cold fronts start pushing south.

Hi CraigP, your flowers are gorgeous, the colors so vivid! I envy folks down south and in tropical climates, especially in winter. I'm in Zone 5 so even Summer doesn't allow us as much variety and hardiness in terms of perennials, and our bloom season is so short.

I'm a bat fan too. I've rescued a few. One of our doors is recessed with a large covered porch and overhead lights which attract bugs, and in turn the occassional bat (usually they're busy concentrating on the area over the pond at night or above the trees in the woods), but they like this spot when it's cold.
Do you see any with 'white nose disease' down there?

      Happy New Year!

      No.

Thanks Delbert, so I am guessing your wife would not have been happy yesterday. I was watering an area thick with Hymenocallis speciosa ( green tinge spider lily) when this big guy crawled out. Actually, more likely a gal. For size reference, the side of the table she is scaling is a 2 X 4. < g >
