Awesome set up. I wish I had room, time, and money for that hobby. Culling is back breaking work and I alway found myself second guessing. Could you tell us what your water change intervals are? I think water quality is extremely important for health, growth, and color at that size.

During the first 30 days while still in the vats, I do a 50% water change on a daily basis due to the amount of food that goes in and the large number of fry (about 10,000) in each vat). Even with the Eazypods running, there is a build up of ammonia without the water changes. Once they go to the outdoor pond which is filtered by 2 Nexus 300's and a Bakki shower, I have a constant trickle of water replacing roughly 10% of water on a daily basis.

Culling can be back breaking, but as I cull for sanke and kohaku I do use a suction pump to remove black fry at 5 days which makes things somewhat easier.

Looks like a lot of fun. I want to start breeding some solid color koi asap. What do you feed you’re fry after they become free swimming?

It is fun and quite addictive! I can't wait for the next breading season and have already started preparations

I start feeding 2 days after hatching decapsulated brine shrimp eggs for about 3-4 days and then move on to hikari first bites. I don't really bother with feeding live food. After about 2 weeks on Hikari first bites they are big enough to feed on grounded up high protein pellet food. I personally use JPD Shori making sure i grind it in the blender thoroughly and adding Spirulina powder to the mix.

Can one use boiled egg yolk, blend it with water and squirt into the fry tank after they swimming freely? What ripening fimtration do you have on your fry tank and how often do u do water changes?

Many do use boiled egg yolk but I find decapsulated brine shrimp eggs and hikari first bites much more convenient to use and give good results. I have a Nexus Eazypod on each fry tank tank and do a daily 50% water change for the first 30 days before moving to outdoor pond which is filtered by 2 Nexus 300's and a Bakki Shower. On this pond I have a continuous trickle of water going in changing about 10% daily.

Breeding Chagoi will give you much more better results rather than trying for sanke or kohaku. The question is what will you do with all those Chagoi
