Thanks for the info kevin, after talking with Akwa I may not need the RO system after all. I have relatively soft water from tap as is 50 to 75 . The only thing is is my tds from tap is 265. Im not sure if this would be considered good or not in this application. I feel it's good enough for me and haven't had much beni loss in my pond quality koi. I will buy better quality fish one day and hopefully get a better idea of my tap water quality.

The system is pretty intriguing though and im excited to see results over a longer period. Keep up the good work you 2!

Thanks Tyler and congrats on your newborn. We account for your source water etc. But since you have soft water like tuyen explained in PM mat not benefit you enough. You can increase water changes it needed to keep your water good. But your source water is ideal. Thanks for interest and kind words Tyler

Green Water - Pea Soup


We tried to purify this pond using our MaSuRO™ pond water purification system




Here is the quality of the clean water going back to the pond (look carefully close to the bottom of the bucket and you see the water meniscus)




Here is the reject water, full of algae cells

So this may be a dumb question but does the RO system effect ammonia nitrites or nitrates in any way?

Good question, Tyler. Generally, RO membranes take out between 60% - 99% of nitrites and nitrates, depending on the types and manufacturers. There are many other methods to remove ammonia effectively, including a none invasive one under research at our company. Yes, I also think the MaSuRO water looks decent.

Thanks for visiting our thread. Your question about gravel/sand filter is best answered by Steve Joneli. It is not in the scope of this thread which is about purifying pond water by RO to save water and improve skin quality and koi health.

Here is the pond water, one week after purifying with the MaSuRO (see picture in earlier post for comparison). The UV filter was turned off since we started the MaSuRO. The water is still murky but has improved comparing to the starting point.

Fast forward 3 weeks after the MaSuRO has purified the "pea soup" pond. Water is crispy clear (and clean). Note the Tancho shadow at bottom of pond. Koi are happy and owner is pleased!

Side benefit of the MaSuRO: highly concentrated waste water from pond is very good to grow plants hydroponically!!!!

Hydroponics from concentrated pond water yields bigger fruits, too! Look at cherry tomatoes, almost twice my thumb. And more can be grown than just tomatoes, zucchini, and lettuce...
