I'm going very slow on the cull I have 150 koi left over from about spawn. It's my 3rd spawn in all and my first "proper" attempt. I'm just watching their development they change so much every 3 days I look at them and see new fish. I'll do a final cull end of march maybe keep 30 or so to better my skills at growing them and learning more about development. But I'm very happy with my babies hope I keep the right ones.

Any tips on growth and selection of showa and kohaku will be much appreciated.

Thanks for your feed back guys.

I like the one that caught my eye but like you said yourself they are changing so fast, just keep the ones that catch your heart and maybe one or two that you're not ready to give up on. Good luck with those little ones forgot to answer your question, I like the pattern, I can see all 3 colors on the face and the sumi (black) is not exagerated nowhere on this little fella just be patient and enjoy the journey.

Great job on your first try at showa. Mine are still pretty small, and I am hoping the showa magic will manifest itself as they slowly develop.
But the patterns on the kohaku that came out of my last spawn sure don't look as interesting as these that you are raising …
