I am working on raising my GH and KH. Both are currently very low, with the API kit changing on the first drop of each test (meaning a result of 1 dH). I keep a reef tank so I have calcium chloride, baking soda, magnesium chloride, and magnesium sulfate on hand.

I read the pH, GH, KH sticky. It sounds like I should add baking soda and calcium chloride in equal parts to start raising both GH and KH, but I知 not clear if I should also be adding any GH in the form of magnesium. I guess I知 asking, is it okay to have all the GH come from calcium, or is there a preferred ratio of calcium to magnesium? I have test kits to monitor these elements individually if needed.
