      Feeding Shubunkins

      Hi all,
I have 4 shubunkins and 4 high finned banded sharks, all about 6" long, in a 60,000 gallon pond and would like to train them to eat in one place. Are there any suggestions on how to train them to eat where I feed them ?
      Thanks,

Try tying a floating ring in the spot you want to feed them. Only put food there, so they learn that is the spot.

60,000 gal.? Is this a mud pond? Is that all that is in there? 8 small fish? They might be hopelessly lost ih that much room. There might be more narural food than they could ever wish for and not be intersted in what yo feed them.

I think that'll be tough with 8 tiny fish in that giant body of water.

Try tossing in sinking food in the same spot. It might take a while, but once they realize that's where the food is, you can start tossing in floating pellets.

I'm VERY NEW to all of this, I only have koi because apparently some extremely young koi had gotten mixed in with the goldfish that I bought at the pond store so I hope it's okay that I'm posting. Because of my work schedule, I trained my fish to come to the beam of my flashlight and initially only fed them at night. They learned in a couple of days and actually that's how I realized that three of my "goldfish" had whiskers and looked quite a bit different than everybody else! It also allows me to get a nice bright look at each fish and make sure that everyone seems nice and healthy.

Just so you know, koi have barbels, not “whiskers.” Another feature that makes them distinguishable from goldfish is that they have downward facing mouths.
