Thanks! This is my first koi pond, and I really wanted it to be done correctly from the start.

Yes, there will be a bench for viewing, and since the walls are 8” wide, they can also serve as a “bench” of sorts. There will also be chairs and/or a sofa out there, a fireplace, and a TV.

External forms were removed yesterday so other hardscaping can be done. As you know the rain really slowed us down, so Russ will be back in 2-3 months to finish the pond. Iím really excited for next steps.

The wall on the left will be stuccoed and will connect to the pond, a bit lower that the height of the wall and pond. Stairs will go up along the pond to the right:

Two (of three total) returns and the pipe (on the left) that will connect to the Levolor, which will be in the filter area:

The filter and moving bed will live here, and will be contained in a board and batten enclosure to match the house. The PVC will be shorterned when the RDF is placed ... for now itís in my garage:

According to my measurements and calculations, the interior volume of the pond, assuming a 36Ē water level and about 4Ē from water level to pond edge, will be approximately 3,472 US gallons.

It’s going to be great walking up the steps and seeing the koi swimming

Thanks! The old house didnít have an impressive entry, so we wanted to do a little better this time.

Another thread on the forum was questioning what to do with lighting, and itís something that I thought about during the design phase. Weíre putting one of these over each of the two large rectangular sections:

They are aimable narrow LED floods that should work really well at night. They will be on a dimmer on their own circuit. Iím using 3,000k color temperature outside, which should work better against a white house and the fishó2,700k might throw a bit too much yellow down.

      Here are the locations:

I know they're probably not the most efficient koi pond builds possible but I love unique
      designs like this one.

Russ popped into town this past week to remove the remaining inner forms and to grind the inner walls. My wife and I just had a baby a couple weeks ago, and between that and going back to work this week I wasnít able to spend much time with him at the house. True to form, he also brought some rain with him, though now itís beautiful out. If anyone needs rain, just invite Russ to visit!
