You know whatís funny...I bought 2 oriental pear trees last year.
      Planted them in the ground.
And then found out I need another pear species to pollinate them.
I thought to myself ugh I donít want 3 pear trees... but I bought a cheap one and put that sucker in the ground. So 3 pear trees.

I just found out that the cheap tree flowers earlier than the orientals

So now Iíll be looking at 4 pear trees

      Rainblood,

Where do you live? Or what zone are you in?

Cukes come up so fast here when put in ground, prestarted makes very little difference, unless they are kept in a heated area the whole time to grow.

      Georgia I think zone 7.
Cukes did fantastic last year until about mid summer when those dam cuke worms started boring holes into everything.
My plan is to plant cukes early and then chop them down once the worms come

when are you able too plant outside? dont plant cukes very early or they will become leggy and the wind and sun will kill them pretty fast. they only take a few days too come up and you really dont want them too be over 3 or 4 inches tall when you plant outside. How come you never post pics of your wife and kids anymore. We want too see how the little Raintrees are growing.

      Kids are beautiful Squeak.
The boy made it into UCLA but is debating whether or not to go because 4 years = $160k.
Iím glad heís thinking about finances. Heís in a tough spot...being 17 and having to make a decision that will affect him for the rest of his life. Say what you will about first world problems but problems are problems no matter what world you live in.
The girl comes from a line of beautiful women and she is no different. I have to keep myself in shape to be able to kick the **** out of anyone coming to the door looking for her. I donít know what type of boys she likes but I do know that these southern boys grow big. If theyíre too big Iíve got a shotgun.
The baby is hitting her growth spurt. She looks like a bean pole and I think sheíll end up giving me the most grief. She embodies the whole range of life and is DW 2.0
DW is the same, just older. Sheís having trouble letting go of the boy. Sheís a tiny ball of fire that hasnít dissipated with age.

Good looking pics. I would have thought your son would have gotten scholarships. Hard too believe that they are getting that old.

I think schools have turned into a business. It really stinks and I feel bad for this upcoming generation.
Somehow he got rejected by UGA but accepted to schools like UCLA and Boston University...makes no sense to me.
Between this and grad school, the kid is going to come out with half a million in debt before he even starts his life.
Imagine if he marries someone he meets in grad school - combined they will have close to $1M in school debt.
HTF does someone climb out of that? Plus buying a house and raising a family.

Theres fierce competition for academic scholarships. Its not pretty and they are like unicorns.
Financial aid made a tiny dent but is pretty much a non-factor.

Its like a new age of indentured servants, but worse because of spin.

It's pretty bad these days. I remember going through college and thinking that I had seen the worse of it when my $300+ used calculus book was worth $40 in buy back. I am thankful at this point though that my loans were cleared shortly after college as I kept it to an absolute minimum while working and having worked/saved from age 11 knowing it would be on me. My wife however has her PHD and the $60k in debt that came with it. Thankfully that is nearly done as well.

Sadly looking at my kids' costs it will exceed my wife's expenses easily. In state when I went was roughly $2200 a year while it is currently at $6400 a year. Of course this is if they are living at home vs on campus or slightly off campus. Off campus 4/4 all utilities included is individually leased at $700 per bedroom taking on another $8,400 a year. If one of my kids did that they are looking at nearly $60k before they start grad work. Hopefully both will get in and just stay at home doing the 30 minute commute. If they can do that, then we can let them go and cover the tuition so they can come out debt free with a degree.

      Rain,

      You have a nice family.

      Your cuke worms:
I don't like to use peticides, but my father in law always planted a huge garden and ate lots of his vegetables. He use Sevin dust for pests.
He lived to be 99 years old, planted garden even at 95 or 96, still drove, excellent health all of his life, and still of sound mind when he died at home. I guess the Sevin dust didn't hurt him.
