i know i have said bad things about the be. we have had to modify things to make them work better. I just thought I'd hook her up and be good. removing the rocks makes sense and not sure why they were put in. also I don't get the point of the hunter valve opening and closing. so we take waste plate off. just stating some mods but overall it yields great results though. never had such clear water with large fish load

The rocks are ballast. The more water you pull, the lower the level will be in the clean water side. So, by removing the ballast the float rides higher, and you ensure the cleaning cycle will terminate. You just have to be sure the float is moving freely since the ballast also makes sure the float slides down with the water level.

i think when you prop the waste plate open removing the rocks helps even more.

      Why?
Proping the waste tray open only really effects the amount of water leaving out the waste port. One is on the clean side and
the other on the dirty side.

No, I did not, and you remember most of what you post about me slightly wrong. Stop it. I have never had any ballast in my float. It gets water in it so I had to empty bit from time to time.

I think it's crazy for not having GFI around pond or wet area.

      Hi,

Just to check back in for what is work and what is myth - YMMV ..

      1. The rdf work with re-use the water on the clean side via booster pump and this is work perfectly since you need <20 psi of input on the pump to generate 50 psi on the output side. Yes it add more cost to the RDF but I think it is the heart of the BE for our koi pond application that generate a lot of poop.

      2. By not add any new water to the system via cleaning, you have more control of treated water that add to the pond .

      3. The waste bucket : I use a 55 gallons cut in half, stick it in a cheap rule 1800 pump that generate very low wattage and the beauty is , it is dirt cheap for 15 bucks for automatically pump out all of the waste that over 1" via garden hose .

      4. UV: yes, I think they have compatibility wiring issue with the US GFCI circuit and I prove that it is work : I am disconnect it now to save (CA) electricity and when I have algae issue, I will deal with it ... no more lecture please !

      5. I did not have to do any modification so far with a single 4" input and a ES8500. I will retrofit 2 BD and a mid water pick up 3" into the mix. There are couple of DCT pump that I can draw more water out of it, but that is extra : the pond only 7000 gallons and water is clear and getting clearer every day.

      6. Water is being test before and after the US III -> BE : not much improve in this department .

I will take more under water picture of the fishes and how the float valve functional during a drum advance/retract .

when you added more rocks to try and trigger a longer cycle did you have the rocks removed? the rdf would cycle and you ran over to see if it cycled longer. but yet you never had anything in the float? hmm. are you 100% sure about that?

Kevin, I have not had any rocks in there. Everything I did was for your benefit and to show you how it operates and what you could do with yours. I don't run either so I don't know where you get that. You are not remembering much of anything I showed you correctly.
