If you're hoping to learn about pattern development, you need to begin with something that can possibly teach you. But, before you learn pattern, you should really begin by trying to learn about body conformation, skin, and color quality. It looks like the two Kohaku you've purchased are from the same breeder and he has really poor genetic qualities either in his parent stock or his selection process/culling. This one is doing the same thing as the other one did as to the color/pattern holding up. If anything, these two should have already taught you a good lesson. Find another breeder and move on. These aren't the droids you're looking for!lol

We have several vendors right here that will hook you up! Plus they can give you their thoughts on which ones will turn out best first hand.

You should go to local koi show. There are better choices n quality especially helpful people to learn that you can talk to.

you learn a lot when breeding koi or at least like me lucky enough to have a friend that gives me a lot of eggs from several spawns. These are culls from an early cull. I give away hundreds of this grade. higher grade than these i am hoping to sale in bulk for a couple dollar each pet store grade. If you could befriend a back yard breeder into giving you culls{so many culls to get rid of} or even some eggs.
