EBF - endless sieve / wire pond filtration - DIY

      Hello @All,

i have told you, that i have build my filtration system by myself. In europe, many people use drum filters or fleece filters. New on market ar endless sieves, these are very expensive, but work very well!
The system is really easy - you have an endless sieve which rotates over rolls and is cleaned by high pressure water.

I show you my first idea:
      Name: Neues Bild (13).jpg
Views: 9705
Size: 52.1 KB

The advantage is, you can use low power pumps, you have no problems with algea that clog filter, you can remove without problem big grasses, and so on.

So my mission was, to build that filtersystem by myself!

Here is an video, how it should work:

I have made many video clips from every construction phase - spoken in german. But when you have any questions, feel free to ask. I try to write in english answers, and i´m confident that we find the rigtht words for description.

      greetings
      Roland

      Hello,

first time i bought the materials for the cover. I would like to put my filter in one big box, there is prefiltration, bilogic and pump chamber. For this box i use a big container of gfk. A picture from this box with my old filtrationsystem can you see here:

There is a endless sieve (blue) combined with a drum filter! It works very well, but i could make it better!

In part 1 of my video documentation, you can see how i make the housing of my new filter. The materials are PE (Polyethylen) and stainless steel screws. I work with power drill, saw, milling machine (hope that´s right - in german Oberfräse).

But now, look on my video - have much fun:

This is Part 1 - in short time, i would write some things to part 2!

      greetings
      Roland

      Hello,

in Part 2 i make the rolls for my filter. I use pipes with 50mm diameter and for the drive roll 110mm diameter. The pipes are normaly used for wastewater installation at home, you also can use pipes for swimmingpools or koiponds - whatever you have.

The tails are cut with saw out of PE (white plate), and i put some waterresistant bearings into the slieces: http://www.igus.eu/iPro/iPro_02_1008....htm?c=DE&l=en Every roll has three tails - one on the right and left side and one in the middle. More tails - more stability.

The shafts are stainless steel pipes with 10&12mm diameter! So the rolls are cheap and good - they run very smooth.

      Project go on

      greetings

      Thanks for your congratulations!

My building move on, and in part 3 i start with the positioning of first rolls. And so i can see first problems - the rolls are not all at right position. From driver roll to the deflection pulley i have problem with wall of dirt section. It is always good to check the building before drilling holes - buy the way, at my projekt it was to late. But i have corrected the problem right away!

      Hi Roland,
In your first post, the drawing, what unit of measure are you using? I've watched your Y tube up thru 13 2. Not understanding what you are saying, I have a idea what you are doing. Very good craftsmanship I might add. The cloth used, what is it and what mesh, if you can share that. Why the triangle shape for the output? What flow rate are you shooting for with a filter this size?
Thanks for sharing this, sure is cool. I have wanted to make a better pre- solids filter for a Rdf, this may be the ticket.

      Hello,

the measure i am using in the drawing are mm (millimeter). With the cloth i think you mean the sieve. This is from a papermachine - has about 50-70mµ and is made of plastic. Here i have an german website where you can buy maybe this sieves http://www.teichhansel.de/index.php?...ndex&cPath=188

The triangle shape for the output i made, because it looks good You also can make a circuit, square, or what you want. Important is, that the area is the same like the area of your inlets.

At this filter, i work with 3 pumps - 2 pumps with 25.000 litres per hour (~6.600gallons/h) and one pump with 30.000 litres per hour (~7925gallons/h) - so i get about 50.000 litres per hour (~13.200gallons/h) throug this filter (not measured).

      greetings

Today, some words to part 4.
In this part i show you, how i make the supporting layer for the sieve!
For this i use an normal Filter Media Grid Support Tray like this: http://www.discountleisureproducts.c...port-tray-p997
To stabilize the grid i use stainless steel threaded rods - hope that´s in english correct. On the side plates and in the middle i take a PE stipe for fixing the trays!

In Part 5, i show how i make the driver roll which is also used to tighten the sieve.
The material is also a pipe from wastewater systems of normal house.

When i put all rolls at there position, i notice a mistake in my planing. The sieve can´t run through all rolls - the layer for the sieve is away. So i build one extra roll, to direct the sieve to another way.

      My filterbuilding move on!

In part 6 i have made the inlet and outlets of my endless filter. Important is, that you have the same free surface like your pipes of the pond from skimmer or bottom drain. I build my big connector myself - show this in a later video!

Second thing which is very important - so i think - is an overflow for safety. If something doesn´t work on the filter system, it must be secure that the pumps get water!

      Much fun with the video:

Part 7 shows the installation from the motor unit!
The motor itself is from a car - "wiper motor" (hope that is correct). The voltage is 12V and it moves really slow.
The motor was put on a plate which is also used to tighten the seeve. This plate can bee moved on a guide rail.

So how do your endless sieve and drum filter compliment each other? Does the sieve take out the bigger solids while the drum filter handles the tiny ones?

      Hello,

The picture with the green big container shows my old filtration system - i called it "Endlessdrum" - for google in german "Endlostrommler". This was build, that the sieve should take algae, foliage, and all the other bigger solids out of the water. The drum filter should handle the tiny ones - that is correct.

My new filter, i show how i build in the videos combines the advantages from sieve and drum filtration. I build one big sieve filter, with takes all big solids and also the tiny ones out of my water. So i don´t have two differnt filtersystems in my pond - only one which work very well!

      greetings

This is a pretty awesome design and fabrication project.

One question for you, as the endless sieve gets dirty, does that cause the water level inside the drum to drop also. Is that an issue?

Yes, this is correct! Both levels drop the same level. The blue sieve of the filter has mesh about 1x5mm - it is very open. So the leveldifferenz is normaly not so big.

      Hello,

today i want to show you in this video how i make the nozzles of the spraybar myself.
The idea was, to build nozzles with a good spray pattern. For the nozzles i take hexagonal screws. In the center i drill a small hole (1,5mm), then i cut a slot and make the bevel. I have made a lot of nozzles, to find a type with has nice spray pattern

      Much fun with the video:

If you like, give me a thumbs up or subscribe my youtube channel!

      Thank´s very much

In Part 9 i make a test of position an function of my spraybar.
This was a very wet idea - but i can see how the nozzles work, and i am happy with them!

      Hello @All,

in Part 10 i show you, how i fix the spraybar! The spraybar can be moved to the sieve - so i can adjuste the distance!
