I had to go through this thread today to remind me that before long I will be gardening & water gardening again.
I have new beautiful water lilies from Frank to look forward to potting up very soon.
I overwintered two geraniums that I really liked from last summer. They have little leaves starting, so I planted them up today. I also planted two sweet potato vines that I dug up last Fall. I potted my caladium bulbs that I also dug up last Fall along with my Cleopatra Canna lily bulbs. My Red Canna lily overwintered in my garage and it has kept a lot of its leaves.
I am hoping to find some really pretty colors of Impatiens & SunPatiens for my pots & my stream this year.
Are you all getting excited too?
Yeah Nancy I keep popping in on the gardening threads just 2 weeks and we should be safe, I got a lime green sweet potato on the back porch that has sprouts I should plant it so it will make me some slips. I dont really have any more room too plant the bulbs and tubers that I stored in saw dust. Hope most survived.
Have you considered large pots? I love watching lilies grow & bloom in pots. Some of the pads will become aerial and grow up and around the pot. The blooms will sometimes stand straight up above the water. They are so much easier to feed this way as well. I fill the pots with pond water and top off during the year with pond water.
I am so glad our growing season is here since April 10th. I am not buying as many plants this year as I have in the past. I have been planting mostly perennials in my pots & beds. They are getting bigger each year and take up more space. But that is a good thing. I have less to buy and plant. I have taken a few cuttings this Spring to use. I need to get some SunPatiens. They didn't have any yet. I bought Impatiens and put those in the stream last week.
I have had two waterlilies to bloom in April this year. I have not had them to bloom that early before. I have a white one 'Alba' and a yellow one 'Lemon Mist'.
Here are a few pictures of my bloomers. lol
I have a pink double knockout that is about 4 foot tall and wide & loaded with blooms. I will try to post a pic of it tomorrow. This red one is out of control with it's size. About a month ago I took about 2 foot off it's height making it 4 foot tall. Since then it has put the 2 foot back on and it is loaded with blooms. I don't think the double knockouts are suppose to go over 4 foot.
