      Coral bark maple

Picked this bonsai up a couple weeks ago for $30.

I have a 7-8 ft coral bark in the back yard which I love. Thought I'd give this bonsai my hand at caring for it. If it fails as a bonsai ill throw it in the ground.

I've always been interested in the beauty of bonsai.

      Let's see what happens

Very pretty Sango Kaku, it's one of my favorite maples. Looks like you have it off to a good start.

Nice starter tree, I think I replied to you on how to start working on this.
Good luck, enjoy the hobby, and keep us posted.
If you're not meant to eat animals, why are they made of meat?

They are a fun tree to bonsai. One thing to remember, it gets it's colored back from newer growth. The old growth turns a silvery gray as the bark thickens. Also, they are best used in the "formal upright" or broom style like you currently have it.

Great point on the bark Mike. Skidad also recommended the formal upright style for this tree.

Thats really cool. I'd like to take a stab at bonsai someday...
Where did you score a bonsai for $30? That seems really cheap although I don't know much about pricing...

Nice tree, If it were mine I would chop it to the first branch and build some taper, Roots and trunk are the first to develop, then comes the top and foilage....
