So basically Im SOL. Too cold now, and wanted this to be my first show experience. Didn't think to add the ruler stickers till later. I guess I thought the quality and conformation of the koi was more of a issue then measurement at the time. Shoot

Can it still be entered anyway and see the responses I would get? I can use size at purchase

Too cold? Its perfect, they will be slow and easy to catch. They may be calm in the bowl enough to take a decent picture. Cool water has probably put some nice luster back in the sumi too.

lol Jim my pond is almost 8 feet deep ...20 x18. Nothing is easy when trying to catch fish alone.

I guess Im not dedicated enough it seems. Just wanted to see how one went and how it goes. I can do without though. Thanks anyway

      Hi William!

Great question, and I'm sorry I haven't had a chance to respond earlier, but I've asked the Chairman and others
for an answer to your question. I'll post here as soon as we have a consensus.

      Thanks!

No Polar Bear clubs around you to take an early winter dip?

I don't blame you for not wanting to go through it all.

I'm in the same a boat as above. It got really cold all of a sudden here in NY and water temp dropped to 45-49 degrees. Would is still be safe to bowl the koi? I'm afraid chasing them with a net could do harm to them. Thoughts?

I bowled my fish and took pictures last weekend. They were fine afterwards.

For not much money I bought a seine from Memphis twine. It makes it really easy to move them gently down to one end and then net them into a bowl. It was totally worth the investment. I can also use it to isolate a fish or two at one end if they need watching or treatment.

No, it shouldn't be a problem. Actually, if anything, it's easier as the fish are less active and a gentle slow moving netting should be able to be accomplished. The fish are usually much easier to handle at this time as well.

If one of my koi is like 4" past the end of the ruler can I still enter the pic? He's the only one that was stubborn so I still have a few others to enter just wondering.

      What size is the "ruler"?

Little confused, I see koi in the show with no measurement visible in the pics? Not too happy about it...

I know with my fish I took two pics, one with lines and one without. The judges have access to the one with lines to confirm size. Just because the posted pic doesn't show the size, does not mean it was not measured.

The judge may kick some out too. I can't speak for the judging, but some people posted pictures of pictures. It was noted in another thread and the judge said they already caught it and even though they are entered, they will not be judged. I am not sure how it plays into the measurements.

I was emailed some pretty bad pictures of the fish entered to verify the sizes. Some with their heads cut off in the pic but they were on the ruler. I emailed people as they entered fish that did not meet the requirements or had problems. There are others on here that can chime in on what it took to get their fish through benching.
