My thoughts are if a breeder did that, it would be an embarassment to their bussiness. It would be too much of a risk and bring a lot of shame to an owner to pull a stunt at an event like that. Doubtful it happened. I know there was a thread in here where someone purchased a decent koi at a pet store and it took a trophey home, but a show in the states vs AJKS are two seperate worlds.
My favorite breeder is Toshiaki Sakai. His father and Toshio Sakai were the founders of the Matsonesuke bloodline. Toshiaki is even more quality driven then his father. The Sanke coming from Yamamatsu Koifarm are very good.
I go with marusei? Sorry about spelling
It's all about the size

I just saw one of his sanke in person and I'm not a huge sanke fan and in a pond that has several monster koi over 30" this koi is about 28" and my eye kept going to his sanke the skin was glowing body had great confirmation pattern ah not the best but great koi
Hi Koiman1950 ''Baldry SAN '' =me english boy lol = breeding his own lines in the Uk lol !.
doing well with my F2 KI SHUSUI !,and Showa ,and Midori goi =which are all thanks to Marusaka koi farm and Shintaro koi farm so these are my best Japanese Artist's that have helped me and not forgetting Otsuka for great Gin Rin Akemi ki goi =which is at the root of my Shiro Akemi goi line ,and Midori goi line ,and Doitsu showa !.
all coming soon on Koiphen .
i'm a big gosanke fan. lots of good breeders who do gosanke and the one that i'm partial to is Dainichi. the Kato showa was the koi that turned me onto showa, Sakura in 2007 was a stunner, Kato's kohaku in 2010 was a wonder at close to 100 cm when she won and more recently the 2012 AJS GC from Kokugyo was fabulous, winning over much larger koi.
i have 3 (one of each type). here is a video of my favorite still boarding at the farm. sansai from Kokugyo oyagoi.

Or do you mean these two? They are still in Houston boarding at a very good friends place. Looking to sell them to keep the pond stocking down
The first one is from Kukugyo, about 30" right now. The 2nd one is from Sakura and is about 32".

Thx for the comments, lets see how she turns out after this season in the mud. My hope is that she is good enough to stay another year.
Here she is with 3 other koi, they were also available for purchase (just harvested the day before). Would you have still taken the Showa?

All 4 koi are different (besides mine being a Showa) and it just goes to show that a particular breeder does not have just one look. You can have a pond full of Dainichi and they would all have a different look, but the quality that makes a Dainichi a Dainichi will be there.
