Last up for today as the fish were not happy with netting is an Asagi that has been around for awhile. At 32 inches she has added 3 inches in the last 7 months. Speckles has a home here long term even with her imperfections. While an Asagi, she has the personality of a Chagoi and is very friendly. Again though, less than great pics.

Went out last night at 6 and fed the fish, went out this morning at 10am and the Karashigoi was floating. No reason why that I can see. She was swimming, eating, and active all day yesterday enjoying life. Pond looks a little empty without her as she was my largest despite being 2.5. Finished up at 31 inches.

The current project is almost done. Took the bare bottom goldfish tank and converted it to a community planted tank. Started with Carib Sea Eco complete and added seachem flourish root tabs in a grid pattern. Plants were next with pogostemon octopus, scarlet temple, baby tears, dwarf baby tears, and golden Anubis.

Eventually started with some fish. Started with danio, Platy, Cory cat, rasbora, and sword tails. Even in multiples it looked thin so hit the LFS and increased the quantities of everything and added in a pair of German blue rams and tetra. Brown algae was picking up due to it being in there from the goldfish and adding all of the fertilizer. Last night I added a small school of otocinclus and all of my plants and gravel top were cleaned by morning. They are working on glass and corners now. Filter sprayer and intake are getting worked in a little slower.

Today was round two of plants. A golden Anubis and half the dwarf baby tears did not take well and died off. I doubled up the dwarf sword grass, added two vallisneria and an amazon sword. Just have to knew them and the others going and get them to start running to really fill in the bottom and create hiding spaces. Between the mini CO2, plant light, and liquid fertilizer it should be too long as I am already seeing small sprouts around the dwarf swords planted just before Christmas.

The last piece of the redo is Discus that will be coming sometime this week.

I would recommend other tropical fish or saltwater, not fancies, personally. Fancies do best in a tank with no plants and few decorations, need a large tank (30-40 gallons each), and have frequent health problems. I find a tank with plants (or coral) and many varieties of fish far more rewarding (coming from someone who has fancies in a aquarium). Plus, you can have a lot more in a smaller tank.

      That's just my 2 cents!

I have a 50 gal. tank of tropical fish and a 55 gal. tank of 2 Ryukins. I enjoy both tanks. If I had to pick I would pick my Ryukins because they are more pet like. When I walk into the room they come swimming to the front of the tank. They will take food from me. I have had these for about three years now and they are getting a good size. I have also kept Orandas in this tank before and they lived to be about 12 years old and were huge. So they are more of a long term fish. I keep my Ryukins in a bare bottom tank because I feel it is better for their health because it is so easy to keep clean.

I have had fancy goldfish in a clear 10 gallon tank before as well and had a 80 gallon filter because fancy goldfish are heavy eaters

The discus showed up today. They are pretty small still at 2 inches but they should grow at a decent pace here. Had 6 show up however one was nearly DOA and didnít make it through acclimation. Thankfully the seller refunded the cost and now itís up to me to keep these things alive.
