I have not pulled one because they are looking better. Not so head down, but still a bit. I'm still leaning toward swim bladder problem. I also have a goldfish that is pretty much stuck on the surface. I was not sure the two problem are linked because I've had two other goldfish have the same problem. But this one started about a day before the others had their problem. The ph was probably off for a day. It was pouring when I went to work and had been the night before and I didn't go put more baking soda in the qt. I wish I had. I just didn't think about before I left for work.

I have grad school all day tomorrow. I will try to pull one after school or on Sunday to inspect gills and such.
Thanks for all of the help. I really appreciate it.

Swimming bladder has nothing to do with head down tail up symptom. Usually is ph fluctuation ph crash and or rapid temperature change on the down side. Generally has to do with large, rapid environmental changes although some kind of gill irritation is not totally out of question but usually the symptoms are different for the gill discomfort . Warm water with .6% salt and stable environment will have the bouncing back quickly.

Katie, I sure hope the problem was the pH crash in the QT and that the fish now in good water are getting better. Once this issue is resolved - for the better I hope, we need to look at your QT setup. I have some ideas on that...later
PS: I would slow down on the flow through while you are trying to get the bio re established. Less to deal with from your low pH/KH source water.
