      Kujaku

Based on what you have heard, read or seen, how do you think this Kujaku should turn out color wise?

Color looks really tight in this pic. I would think once it starts stretching out some, its going to lighten up.

I would love to see this color and pattern on a 28" female.

I too think the beni will lighten up as it grows out, IF it grows out rather quickly. My problem with this fish, that I can see, is although the Hikari appears decent at this size, the sides of the head and the pecs really don't show me that it is thick enough to maintain to adulthood.

I do. I'll post a few in a little while. They are on my laptop which I haven't set up yet.

Here is how the Kujaku in the first post turned out. The Hikari was very nice on this one. This is a Kujaku that I got from Toshio Sakai as a Tosai. It spent 3 months in our mud ponds to become this.

The reason I posted this was to show that sometimes, when a Koi is darker at Tosai, it doesn't affect the outcome later on. I think it holds true with a lower grade of Koi more so that with better quality. A low grade Tosai, that is darker, tends to wash out more and becomes a darker Nisai.

Here are quite a few pictures of, what I would call, the ideal Kujaku. Take a look at the all and try to figure out what the all have in common. My hint would be to look at the skin.
I would encourage all who read this to post your thoughts.

Here is an ideal Kujaku at Tosai. Take a close look as it does have the same qualityies as the lager ones in the previous post.

I thought the pattern on it's head would have been lost with growth, proved me wrong

If you look at the skin, on the head, of the Tosai in post #1 you can see it is very white and bright. It is white because the skin is thick and bright because the Hikari is very strong. The Beni is the same and although the pattern changed the Beni did not fail. I mentioned, in another thread, that there is a difference between week Beni and Beni that is changing. This is a good example of Beni changing without being week. If you look at the pecs, on the same Tosai, you can also see a very even glow. It also shows that the Hikari is strong.

They all have an obvious sheen to the skin.

The pictures don't do the colors any justice, she's not orange.
I think that is what I want to know ... In what direction should she have gone by now?
Personally I love the way she looks and am happy with her growth.

As far as the color goes I would have thought a deep orange. Did she go red? The matsuba should have become more defined by now as well.
