Using Miracle Grow for water hyacinth? How much

My Pickeral rush is huge but my hyacinth are lite green too early. How much MG in a container?

My salvinia, water lettuce and lillies are all thriving. Hyacinths turned light green and are all scrawny looking (but still multiplying like mad and are covering half the pond).

To give a cited reference, the recommendation from Auburn University for using a Miracle-Gro type soluble fertilizer in an aquatic situation is 1 tsp in 5 gal as opposed to the usual 1 tsp per gal....a one fifth rate.

Cindy, before putting fertilizer in the water, have you checked the root systems on your plants? Koi and goldfish love to chomp on hyacinth roots and many times the yellowing is caused by diminished roots. You need to put the plants into a different container and fertilize them and allow them to regrow their roots before returning to the pond. Miracle Grow or something similar works great to fertilize the plants in the bucket.
Also, another suggestion for fertilizing hyacinth is to use something like Monte's Joy Juice and it can be used as a spray. Simply spray the leaves and they will absorb the nutrients and your plants will green up quickly. You will not have as much fertilizer in your water this way to cause an algae problem. MJJ can also be used in the bucket of water to regrow roots or to flush plants.
These are just some alternative solutions to your problem or for others.

Montys joy juice looks like mulch fluids, if you garden some and familiar with mulch piles and mulch fluids, thats probably more readily available. It would not fix hyacinths yellowing from excessive sun and heat, unless you moved them to a better shaded position

The hyacinths I have in the goldfish pond are turning yellow, but then they have eaten the roots. So I switch them out with fresh ones , and let them regrow in another tub - fish. I also think the goldfish pond is too clean...not enough nutrients for them.

I was thinking of fertilizing water lilies with Miracle Grow until I looked at the ingredients list on the box. Copper is included, and I know copper is toxic to fish and other pond critters. I'm not sure if the level is high enough to be concerned with, but if you have fish in your pond maybe you should find a different fertilizer for the plants. Anyone that's tried M.G. in a pond with fish care to comment?

Bump - for those wanting to green up some water hyacinth. The outdoor Miracle Grow mix rate is 1 tablespoon per gallon. Using 1/5 ratio use 1 tablespoon in a tub (no fish) with 5 gallons water. Tried the lesser rate of 1 tps listed above and plants did not respond.
