      DIY Gravity feed Sieve filter

Made a drawing of a gravity feed Sieve filteration unit if someone here wanna try making one in fiberglass or plastic welding. I draw it with exact measurements for those who wanna try.

I would love the measurements for one, what kind of screen would you use for this one? I have looked all around for low cost solution for a screen but have came up empty, I have a heat welder and ready to go, just need a screen

      Screen / Mesh

      Tinknock,

Kind of expensive to get good screen in stainless. They sell replacement screens for a Cetus Sieve in 100, 200, and 300 Micron.

      http://www.newenglandkoi.com/Cetus-S...-Fed-p-494.htm

Or you can try to rip off their spec and match it in 316 stainless at McMaster Carr.

Hope things are going well for you,

      Ben-

Very nice. This is one of the most simple and elegant flow controls that I've seen. The only thing I can think of is that the water height in the bottom chamber would be hard to adjust, so it would be critical to get it set right in the beginning.

nice concept. screen choice is important. regular mesh type material won't work, it will plug up in short order. Also, you need to have a good slope on your screen so the crud works its way down and so it will wash off into a waste channel easily. How much of a pond drawdown will this sieve allow?

This sieve can handle flow up to max. 3962 gallon pr.hour.

It would be smart to have an knife /ball valve before the sieve unit to adjust if the flow is to high into the sieve unit. The "flow control" adjust itself automatically to match the pump capacity.

What 3D software package did you use for those drawings? I use Cinema 4D (by Maxon) and am curious to know what materials library you found the screen pattern on. Surface reflexions are spot on, by the way...

      Hi Hi Utsuri

I use a software called Solidworks Premium when im making constructions. The screen i made myself and rendered it with a mesh material.

I could see how this sieve could overflow/fill up if a piece of any small trash (string algae, pine needle) were to catch in the float valve. No amount of buoyant pressure will stop the flow. And there still has to be the right level of water in order for the weir to work. If pond level is below the weir, no go. If pond level is high enough, the valve has to be perfectly tuned to the pump, and tuning like that frequently goes sour. This is a sexy, simple design, but it doesn't look like it would work at pond level, and if it was below pond level it would work until it got a small piece of trash in it, then it would overflow.
