      sUPER kINDAI -

What is wrong with the body on this fish that koiaddict is showing, particularly? For a fish of this size, I think it has a very full body, not fat, but very full.

      ??

I just don't see an issue with it.

Your saying she's fat? She will kill me if I share that her waist line is a bit round.

I think I'll spare her that part. LOL

it won't be appreciated at koi shows but that's "the nearly perfect one step" is very rare in terms of breeding since there are many, many tancho, 2-3 steps and inazuma pattern, etc.
Pattern wise, your kohaku has well-refined a good powerful pattern, although it's a continuous, IMO.

Pls take a look at these " full body" compared with that koiaddict' kohaku body line.

Btw, Ethan, Your "Quality Koi sanke, 8", small Nisai" has same issue in terms of body flow and bone frame.

I imagine that she shows a powerful impression when she is swimming around in your pond....
IMO, Internet is a good learning tool indeed but in the real world, koi is not supposed to be judged by a motionless picture but should be judged and appreciated in a swimming motion....

Good points. SHe was a very shy fish, being used to Rich's mud. She used to be the one to eat last. Now, they eat together & she proves to own the pond. But it could be that we are so enamoured with her. Or the fact that she's the highest quality fish we have. lol

How do you judge bone structure on a smaller fish?

The fish surely isn't the longest looking sansai I have ever seen. To me, it looks as though there is a chance it is pregnant, especially when looking at the turning picture.

I outlined the body with black to see what we are looking at. I'd have purchased this one in a heartbeat as I think it has the potential to grow big. Just becuase it is (possibly) pregnant at this stage of its life doesn't mean that it necessarily has poor bone structure.

These are, about same size 22", in a different grade.
As we can see, left one is incomparably better than right one. the price difference is three times.

Jumbo tosai about 14".....very good body and quality but lack of show standard pattern (good pond fish) = inexpensive.
