The tancho makes me think of a scuba divers mark.
You 've got a Nice looking fish.

the sumi pattern is excellent as for Utsuri variety, and the sumi & skin quality looks fine along with the body lines, although the fish may not works well at shows because of a show standard. I can not see a character of the tancho marking thru the picture but I hope to keep it up as the fish grows.

      Great advice on the current.
I've been wondering why they don't seem to develop any thickness at the tail. My pond is L shaped with the long part having the waterfall and one of the tpr's. I was hoping this would provide enough current to build them up. I can see now that it's not.
Hum gonna have to rethink the plumbing.

Koigirlfl........ This (the fish in your original post) is one of those fish that I would buy 'Just because I like the pattern".... lol I don't care WHAT the experts say either.

I agree. In the end it should be about what pleases you.

The tancho makes me think of a scuba divers mark.
Here's my take. THe koi is not a tancho because of a few things. Let's look at the fish without any sumi involved, and view it as a kohaku. The hi marking on the head extends toward the shoulder of the koi. Once the tancho mark hits the scales, it would not be considered a tancho, but would just be a kohaku with one step, and not placed centrally enough on the head to be considered a true tancho marking, in terms of judging appearances.

I think there's enough misconception out there that a single hi marking on the head necessitates a tancho designation. Maybe it's one of those misconceptions that are true to a point. I think its possible that more believe it than don't, but, in terms of this thread, which is posted in the judging forum, it cannot be considered tancho. To be mauretan, I believe it would have to have additional hi plates somewhere else on the body, seperate from the initial hi plate on the head and shoulders.

If you do not care about showing it in the future, then by all means, keep it because it is a striking koi to look at. But if you do plan on showing in the future, it will have little potential, and any money invested in it for future showing purposes would be a mistake.

Exactly Carl..... and ya know... I'll bet not a one of our show fish would look down on it swimming with them in our pond....
