Please keep us informed of your progress. I don't intend to have a mud pond at this stage, but I'm very interested in your results. The water parameters of GH, KH and pH are still relevant to anyone with koi. Your fish are still beautiful to me and the last is stunning.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Griff...This could defiately help new folks from a hard learning experience
The carbonate/bicarbonate/carbonic acid reaction dictates that the carbonates will form and react with any available calcium at pH values over about 8.3, removing your calcium. If the pH is below 8.3, then some of the carbonates become bicarbonates and then carbonic acid, dissolving the calcium carbonate to put the calcium back into the water column.
With your high pH, you can through limestone in the pond until there is no room for water and it will not help. The daily pH swing due to algae/plant photosynthesis, there may be some dissolution and resolidification.

Thanks Richard
In do not expect PH values to stay that high for very long. Water sources for that pond are off Caraway mountain run off. PH 6 ish coming off mountain .
Well water is also 6ish , and it takes several weeks for the lime to react with the mud on bottom of pond .
I have the calicum levels at saturation point , even above . That was one of my goals .

Griff , One Question : Did you Pump Air into the Pond ? If so , what size pump ?

Yes I pump air into the pond. I am using a AES diaphram type air pump pushing two 12" air stones set up on Star board . It is set up at deepest part of pond , water debth is 6-8 foot . I set it up and have it running before fish go in pond .
for letting me help you move the girls to summer camp! The water and the fish look great and tommrow I am going to pull up the likely suspects in my pond for a once over and will get with you about sending a couple to camp!
Thanks again!
Regards, Ken
The most powerful point of suction in the pond occurs at our checking account. It's all Marges fault!![]()
