      Bob's Hoshikin Kohaku

The first photo was taken at 19months in Japan last October or November. I bought her last March from Kevin and she shipped to the states last May. She was thin and in poor condition. She received some handling or shipping damage to her fin. The dealer has been watching over her and feels she will recover and heal up to her original condition. The next few photographs were taken today by Steve and a helper, she is now 25 months old. Kevin has been very helpful and understanding.

Do you feel this fin will heal fully, without taking away from her show quality?
      Thanks,
      Bob

Is it her right fin and is it torn on the edges? Hard to tell in the photo.

The torn fin is on the left pec, hard to see, but dead center middle tip as you face her last photo. She was 20" when she was photographed at 19mos. At 25 mos, it seams she has grown an inch or more, kevin did not say. Thank you for your kind words, this koi will be my nicest koi in my pond and most expensive nisai. The nisai I let go last year was even more, Stephen how is she doing..

She may be coming home on August 8th. We will see. I need to thin out my koi, I have an male ogata sanke, a few longfin, and a local showa may have to sell at our next local auction this fall.

If so the shimi should disappear when I place her in my Low Gh water. I am concerned about the missing tip of left pec.

She came in on time and in good condition. Her pectoral fine is healed, although a little thin. She measures about 20" at 26 months. It will be about three years before she will be ready for a show. I have attached a few photo's.

You all are very kind, she will need some time, good water and care to grow her out and build up her conformaty. I need to find someone who wants a few longfins. I would like to reduce my fish load from 12 koi in 8500 gallons to 9. If anyone is every in SA, please e-mail and drop by.
      Thanks,
      Bob

      Hi Bob

Looking at the pics you posted, she is doing very well. As you said, a little time in your water will clear up the shimi, no doubt. Looking at the third photo you posted, it appears the pec fin has recovered almost completely and should be fine in competition, even today. your decisions about waiting to show her and reducing your stocking density are both very sound moves. Best of luck with your new addition. You will enjoy her for quite some time to come.

As far as a "name", how about "Kohaku".

      Mike

      Bob,

She looks destined for stardom....the shimi already looks much lighter than before.

I do not know how large she has grown. She had a rough summer, the pond temps reached 95f, had to stop feeding. She is making up for it now, I am feeding high silk 21 with EA Health and the pond temps are upper 70's. I assume she is about 24", in the photo's the five step kohaku is 26" plus or minus.

If the shimi doesn't vanish then the only option will be to cut it out...if you are game. Otherwise best left alone....
