      Sandwich Men

      Sandwichman

Blurry picks but you will get the idea i didn't know what to look for... as you can see it is a good sized piece of pad folded with a white cocoon like thing or larve.

If you have lilies, you will have sandwichmen. Sometimes it takes a while for them to find you. But they will. It looks like something bit your lilies.

The only thing I've had chew on my lilies are some type of little creature rolled up in a stick cocoon type thing. they are around an inch and the cocoon looks like it's made out of tiny sticks, the bug is inside that and they sure do damage to the lilies. I hand picked all mine off and threw them away, nasty little things. Jeannie

I even tried to "google" up a picture of the sandwich men and not a thing pertaining to water lilies or bugs came up........ are you sure you guys aren't just trying to scare a lily newbie here? I think I need to see a picture of one of these critters Jeannie

I was surprised how big it was. I kept looking for something tiny.

      Sandwich men

They chew a hole in the leaf wrap it around them and float to other leaves. I have heard a light on at night draws the moth which lays eggs on the leaves. Then they hatch out. Dipel is what I use to powder the leaves and kill the larva. It is safe for plants and fish.

Sandwich man, aka bagman, aka case bearer aka China mark moth larvae damage is a bit of an eyesore, best caught early...

Take care not to use pesticides that take out caddis flies, dragonfly larvae and other beneficial insects
