      Rooting Roses

Just wondering if anyone has ever tried to root a cutting from a rose bush...my brother gave me a New Dawn rose bush and he planted one for his wife also...theirs died....and my brother died last June...his wife asked me for a cutting....I'm trying but it doesn't look too promising...

I do it all the time. Take a bloom. Cut it about 8 inches long cut the bloom off. It needs to be a pretty new bloom. Pull most of the leaves off. Now take a sharp knife and cut the green layer off The stem near a leaf node. Gettt some rooting hormone and dip it in and put in in a nice semi shady area in the ground put a jar over it and in a few months you will have a rose growing. There are lots and lots of ways to take rose cuttings. I used to set up a mist tent and root all kinds of them they root fast under a mist. At one time I had well over 300 new and heirloom roses. I will try and take a pick of how to do it tomorrow it might have to be on a mini rose though and they root real fast.

Ok this is an old row of roses that I dont take care of at all they are all rooted probably 20 rose bushes down this row a lot of them are david austin roses. some are climbers. Some are old word roses. I could not get good pics but scrape the skin away near a leaf node down and litte and then dip in rooting hormone. My neighbor used to stick them in a potato and then bury the potato this way the cutting always had some moisture and they rooted well for her too.
