Where the gravity feed, the pump pipe is under grate in the Nexus. Which boils down to the right pump for either setup(3200-3400 GHP. Also if you do have a bigger pump then needed and your flow is higher 3200-3400 the 4" pipe will be surging(burping)so have to find right balance point gravity return setup.

I also used a 4" compression fitting so you could adjust the four inch pipe up a smudge or down.
I have enjoyed my gravity fed nexus units until I have been burdened with string algae this winter..I had to remove k1 from Eazy and use mats..still clogs up every other day.

I was nervous too about using any chems to kill it but I took Roddy's advice and used Baquacil Shock - Oxidizer and don't have a problem anymore. I still have the nice carpet algae.

I didn't have a deck or wall to hide my filter house, so I decided to design it into the backyard using the same materials as my house.

No questioning that. I found that I could have more bio capacity for about the same price if you build English style filters yourself. It was a hard decision for me, but it came down to just that, bio capacity.

I also have a Ultima II 20K bead filter, so I guess I did both DIY and manufactured equipment.
