hard to find a good Kin showa

I am considering the one on the far left, as long as my contact still has it in stock. Nisai, 13-14" long. Any thoughts are appreciated. Name of breeder is Mano. He thinks it may be male, but that really doesn't matter to me right now.

      Thanks,
      Ethan

Russ, is it Doitsu? I guess I don't understand Platinum Showa but I think it has come up before, I just don't remember. Interesting.

      Hi Barbara

No, it is a metallic Showa, but it is not doistu, although I wouldn't be surprised if those existed as well. It is shiny like a Yamabuki or Kujyaku. Look closely at the ones Ethan posted and notice the shininess on the head, pecs and shoulder.

This is what he got me on his trip to Japan. I asked him to look for me, as my parents will probably help with the cost of this one as he is near where they live. early birthday present hopefully!

Here is the one picture full size and another of the same 4.

sumi is generally not really solid on Kin showa...never quite makes black... more charcoal and bronzy...but a definite looker in the pond...I like them!

Gin rin is an irridescence of the scale, it sparkles. 4 types of gin, from striated, to edged to pearle etc...

the KIN is a metallic sheen that is the difference from a shiro muji white and a platinum or a kigoi yellow and a yamabuki

A Gin Rin Showa is not metallic, it does not have a metallic sheen. It has scales that have Gin Rin. Shiny bits, so to speak. Here is a Gin Rin Showa.

Me neither, I had never seen one before until a friend got the fish last year..... it was same reason because he had never seen it during his 35+ years hobby life...
