The Sanke. The quality of her skin is striking in person. Unfortunately a secondary hi appeared in the tail section of the shiroji. I hope it will go away. Shame I cannot get good pictures for you to see.

The fourth fish a Sanke as I said I never got. I also never got the refund of $110 that I paid for it. Ned never returned any of my emails or voice messages. Carl also never return my IM here at Koiphen. This was a WWKC official sanctioned grow out and I was expecting the "officials" to try to take care of this.

Thanks you Jorge. SJ breeds excellent domestic koi. One day I would like to visit his farm. these poor fish were moved several times from a 4' foot QT to 6' foot qt back to the 4' foot and finally the new pond. And even after so many moves they did good. As far as growth they got much less than my average fish gets usually but they were never fed the "good" stuff. Here is two of my experiment fish that I pushed for 14 months. I got 21'' and 19.5'' growth in 15.5 months out of them.

It may just be the pictures, but it does not look like secondary hi on the tail section of the sanke. To me it looks like raised irritated spots, like from parasites or bacterial infection.

The Kohaku appear to be a bit "heavy breasted" but the Sanke still appears to be leading your pack. The skin quality on all of these appears to be very good, but again, the Sanke just kicks the Kohakus' butts. The secondary beni will usually go away within 6-12 months. That's been my experience anyway.

      John,
I'd say you're doing a great job. Can you share what you're feeding and how much to get that kind of growth?

Main food is Blackwater Gold 40% - 50% . Color food at least 25% and wheatgerm 25-35%. I like Saki Hikari or Kodama for color. And Saki Hikari all season or Kodama wheatgerm for the whites . Feeding with feeders 4 times per day and 2 times by hand at the same time all the time. Lots of air and current for exercise to work the appetite. LOTS of water change in a form of flow through.
That is what I have been doing (in a short version) with great success.

Thanks! I've been using BW gold and Hikari but I've underestimated how much food it takes for that kind of growth.

Not only the quantity of food and cost but the water quality maintenance involved. I find that 4 times per day on the light side works for my maintenance protocol. Any more the vortex settling tanks foul foul quicker.... I'm afraid of Aeromonas build up.

Then you need my RDF. Instant poop removal automatically down to 40 microns. No Vortex for the poop to stay in the water column and polute it, therefore no Aeromonas. I will be importing them soon.

That is the whole idea Marilyn. They are very affordable and they are the ultimate mechanical filter you can possibly have.
