Just thought to add that I tried sealing the top from air with a cap, and I was getting much finer, stable, consistent foam being created at a faster rate than before, day and night.

It might be just my setup, but here's my hypothesis: the change in diameter of tubing from the 1.5 inch PVC to 6 inch creates the venturi effect which creates a pressure drop in a closed system. This boils the water, forming extra small bubbles from dissolved gasses, which are more stable. I believe finer foam is better, as we want to avoid coalescence and Ostwald ripening into coarser unstable foam.

This was a couple hours after making this change (immediately before, it was not generating any foam).

I have to say that it's one of the most elaborate PP builds I've ever seen! I don't know if anyone has gone
      up through a roof before.

Is this 6' height just the de-facto standard? I would think there is a certain vertical height where any more doesn't really matter.

If correctly built it can be half that height.

Why not a 4 " bottom Tee and take off?

What are the important criteria regarding these FF builds?

I see the entry 3 days ago of the installed foam fractionator has +-750 gallon water delivery.

+- 1/2 the suggested amount of water required in the Ethan models.

      Update to my new FF

This is a small update for the foam collection method. I replaced the temporary gutter with a 4" diameter PVC so as to deliver the foam directly down into the catch basin.

Living in Cali with the water restrictions it might be a sound investment.

      Could be.

So far our water consumption hasn't been too bad. All our plants are on drip and drought tolerant grass. The pond gets full sun in the morning but its mostly shaded by about 1p so that cuts back evaporation. That will probably change once I get a shower going.

Planning out my filtration layout for the pond build I am currently doing. In the digging stage now, so luckily I can plan all of this in ahead of time, and I MUST have one of these. My yard is full of pine trees and in the spring the water is yellow with pollen, so I am hoping this will help remove some of the effects. Couple of questions...

      1. Has anyone ever piped the return flow back to their pond with flexible PVC instead of hard pipe? Any reason this wouldn't work so long as the ball valve to control outflow pressure was installed first, per the directions, and the flex was downhill the entire way?

      2. Has anyone sent their return water to a simple, no filter, waterfall diffuser or other low-pressure water feature, such as an urn fountain or something? My FF will be considerably uphill from the side of my pond and the gravity feed can be quite significant if the return from the FF is at 800 GPH. I really want to avoid having a blunt end of PVC sticking out over the lip of my pond being seen.

      3. Has anyone sent their return under the waterline into a waterfall "bog" area? Would this work so long as the pond is significantly downhill from the FF? The bog is only 1" deep, or would the FF return still not have enough flow to "push" the water out of the return and into the bog?

      Thanks.

      1. Should work fine... you can even eliminate the ball valve by positioning the flex pipe return line so the water level is the right height in the foam collection chamber.

      2. Should not be a problem.

      3. See 1. and 2.

Bought the parts! Now let the newest PP assembly begin!

I managed to find all the parts I needed at one store. Tonight I will attempt to build my own PP. Will post pics and results when complete. Stay tuned.

About to kick off a FF build! Where online is best for the bio barrels? And if I follow the first post instructions perfectly, which Periha model should I go with assuming the head is only the height of the FF?

Also if I place the submersible pump in the skimmer, does it matter whether the pump feeds from top or bottom of the skimmer? Prefer bottom so I don't suck in leaves...

Here she is; pretty much following the exact instructions on the first post except I have a cap and used a drilled flower pot to dissipate the water on entry. Got a decent amount of foam within the first 5 minutes . Spray painted flat green, Rustoleum camo color.
