      Hi, Marg!
Your longfins in the middle pond look great. last year "valentine" seemed to have a bleeding wound in her side. it was too hard to catch, medicate, but saw her this year and she's full of herself. doing all the fishy things.

As for this current extension of the ki shusui project, introduced the girls on the 14th. I am going to have help today putting in some spawning brushes in a frog free zone, like that will make any difference, but i haven't been down to the pond this morning. the girls know the drill and have proven it. the boys are just kids. old enough -- but are they listening to nature? We shall see. And I will post!
      thanks for checking in.

Legacy made it :yahoo: and here's Lyra with kids.

Legacy is my pet -- she doesn't know or care but i like this fish. See Lyra, F1 getting used to the lower pond and all the kids. You kind of have to see around that very sturdy duckweed some bird brought me as a present, I guess. Very nutritious, I understand..

      In other news:
I was summoned to the Big Pond by a helper who was repairing net and the fish were playing bumper cars, crashing into the weeds. He did not know wth. Thought they had eaten bad food. The sun was blazing, the pond iris were quivering and i'm guessing by late afternoon i'm going to hear fish slurping down eggs on the fringes. We changed out most of 500,000 gallons on May 14th in order to catch Oyagoi for use in Lower, and that fresh well water may have triggered all this fishy love.

Some spawning in the Learning Curve Pond. Tons of Duckweed!!!! I have seen them eat it with their pellets, so the middle pond fish are getting their protein and their greens.

The Lower Pond with the kids and three female oyagoi (their moms or aunts) is very quiet. Fish are eating and seizing the day, but no splashy-splashy. Will they spawn?

      Now what??????

First, every single fish in the Big Pond got hit with Cupid's arrow.
      Now,
Going out to feed dinner to fish at 7:30, I hear rustle near the bird feeders, grunt, grunt, grunt. I see this guy grabbing the locust tree and shinnying up 50-60 feet. I query him. "Whatcha doin'?"
      Grunt, grunt, grunt.

      Now what???
      I feed the fish.
      Lock the doors.
It's dark so I put some fill light on the photos.
      Post right here!

      Did someone say Bearrrr!

I told him to go to his room, Rick, and I don't see him now. Still I'm gonna feed the fish at 6:00 and we're cutting back on the bird food until he moves on. Man who works here saw pix and thinks he's about 3.

In New York, the adult males average 298 pounds and adult females average 163 pounds. Really big males can be up to 500 pounds. They are a little smaller in North Carolina. Males down here average 247 pounds and females a mere 104 pounds. The farther north you go, the bigger they get.

One of the scariest things I have seen while riding my bicycle near New Bern, NC was the sign that said "watch for bears next 10 miles".

Rick, sounds like the females in NC are about a size 6. Impressive.

And Yah, that sign, "watch for bears next ten miles"== I'll bet you were watching!
