Here's one of mine now. Man,them blood worm do make 'em grow! Just 11 days into this thing. It was about 3" when I got her Aug.6th.

Just kidding. This is the girl I lost a couple of years ago. She would have won "Miss Congeniality" at any show. What a fish!!! When I got her as a 2-year-old she was already 24" when moved from the QT to the pond.

I guess I'm going to have to use clove oil or something to get better shots. What's a better sedative to use? Anyway,was just breaking in a brand new flash but,unfortunately,my helper quit on me before I could get shots of all four. Next time there'll be a tape measure in there. What color would you call the darker one? The lighter colored one is the one I thought had its eyes too far forward(see post #1). The largest in post #1 jumped and is gone.

Well,just less than a day left. SlmTrm,I just don't think I can beat 7.8" per fish. You did a great job of caring for them, But,I'll still net and pan them for pics tomorrow. Here's a few I shot while they were still in their growout tank today:

I'm out. A couple of mine just barely make slmtrm's 7.8" average growth....in overall length now.

You have nice puppies there. The scales and color look very good.
After a few years the inch or two in length of 26" + won't make a diff.
They will eat you all out of house and home.

Bill, I love the color on your chagois...Mine is darker, but has nice reticualtion....What is the total length on yours??? they look decent size or were you using a zoom lens My chagoi probably could have topped 13", but it had to spend a month convalesing from a large wound suffered after getting stuck in my floating skimmer chasing MORE food that was in the skimmer Thank goodness it healed completely and you can't even tell it was injured Great fun competition and learning thanks Six and Bill

I have'nt seen the OFFICIAL announcement Bill, But the color on your's is outstanding, and I see your soragoi mutated into a NICE karasugoi Didn't you grow yours in an aquarium???? If so, I think that show that water volume influences not onlt totat growth size, but also rate of growth.....thus the use of large mudponds

I think you are right about water volume affecting both rate of growth and total growth. I sure hope they can catch up in the main pond,but sadly they've lost one of the most crucial growing periods they'll have. I have them in a 150 gal. stock tank and I'm sure wishing I'd made them a bigger home. When I first got them they looked so tiny and I kinda wished I'd bought a bigger package,but as it turned out it was probably a blessing that one bailed. Can't wait to get them outside. And I'll take a karasugoi over a soragoi any day. But it sure is hard to see in that black tank.
