Last year I saved about 250 eggs to watch them develope. fast forward to winter.About 45 made it through the summer. I culled about half of those....sorta . (I threw them in the lily ponds, but in Jan brought some back in to the garage cause Im a softie and felt sorry for them starving and freezing). So all the babies started out either black or orangeish. The first pic is some of the babies at about 1.5 inches. The next pic they are 10 months and from 4 to 7-8 or so. alot of them have a matsuba/kujaku(momma fish at bottom) pattern which is hard to really see in the pictures. A couple are really odd peachy color.not really orange or yellow. I dont know if that is from artifical light while in the garage or just a product of the spawn. I think I will only keep about 2-4 through the summer to see the changes. This week end half of them are going to new homes.
