I shared shipping with a fellow Koiphenner, so these pics show both of our SUs and some Sankes. Two of these beauts are destined for my urban oasis when they get out of QT:

Strangely, one of the Sankes in the shipment was a little big, even by Matt's standards:

Those are some beauties. Sigh.....so did you have to do any special permitting to get them across the border?

They are not in Canada yet: they are all going into QT for a month in the US, then into a shorter QT when they reach my place.

Permitting seems to be a Provincial issue. My web research suggests that importing ornamental aquarium fish for personal use does not require a permit. I believe that an indoor QT is essentially an aquarium.

We'll see.

That's what I would call it.
Looking good and hope they cross the border without a hitch.

Very nice Reg, hope all goes well, and yes an indoor QT sounds like an aquarium to me:D:  , they sell koi from aquariums in pet shops, so if they ask just say they are for your aquarium:yes:

I loved it too, but if you (and/or anyone else who feels the same way) have a moment to spare, could you describe for me what you see that tells you this has really terrific skin? Here's a blow-up:

Thanks in advance for sharing a little knowledge... This is exactly the kind of thing I am trying to learn.

Good question, and don't take what I say as more than a grain of salt. I'm still much a rookie, with the desire to learn like yourself.
With that note, what I see to indicate the strenghth in the white is the white on the nose.

Also has a great hi pattern on the head.

Deffinetly one of the better out of the growout!!!

How long is this Sanke?

Take care of that baby!

I was actually joking about this being a growout. Since buying a growout meant paying for shipping, I also purchased this Sanke separately and had them all shipped together.

A little story about that. Matt has so many beautiful Koi, my eye was drawn t several really attractive specimens in his flickr collection. However, he steered me towards this and three other Sankes, urging me to go with quality and buy a koi for the future.

Not that there's anything wrong with any of the others he has, but for someone just moving up past garden centre koi, Gosanke is important.

So... I will be watching this for a few years.

I look for the quality of the white by the tailstop. It looks good on that sanke. I always take Matt's advice. ;)
