Here they are, straight out of the shipping bag.
Kind of funny to open a box with no idea what to expect other
than black-and-white.

They are a bit stressed (slightly pink), but seem fine... no obvious bruising or other shipping injuries... and not too freaked out at all. At this writing they've been introduced to QT and appear very relaxed, swimming around without crazy darting and head banging.
I'm concerned that the sumi is already so pronounced on such small shiros... but I guess time will tell. Great looking surprises! Thanks Matt!

EDIT -
I forgot to list the actual measurements upon arrival in May:
7.5" for Ling-Ling (masked)
6.5" for Hsing-Hsing

Updated images to come...

They look great Bec:cool: , SU are known to stress, I moved my Bekkos the other day from QT to pond, water was exactly the same so no floating in a bag at all, just netted to bowl and hand let into pond, maybe 5-8 minutes to move and take a picture, they got a little pink and even the sumi noticably lightened on one of them. ;)

That bottom one is a brute. I like the pecs on the top little one.

Hey thanks everyone. Even with the pink, I wasn't too concerned about them since they were behaving fairly normally. Two fish, in about 2 cups of water, overnight on a FedEx roller-coaster is bound to cause a little stress!
O.k... maybe 3 cups, but no more! That sugarloaf packing is the deal!

Re: pectoral color.
Yes... Interesting that the SU with less body sumi has solid black pecs and the 'brute' :) (i hope to call her 'brutA' someday) has almost solid white pecs. Something else to watch over time. I'm really psyched to track these guys... along with everyone else.

They seem well today... definitely not pink anymore, and eating.
Anyone have a guess about genders on these two? I know, I know...
but I'm really curious about opinions.

They look good. The "brute" (brutette)? does have some big shoulders on her. May grow large!

I call them ling-ling and sing-sing.

Those of you who are old enough will recognize
the reference, obviously based on their color.

Funny... tailtube person.

Thing is... that image makes the fish look way more
head and shoulders than she actually is. Its a bit off. I'll update
with new images once I'm sure they're really settled in.
They both are looking quite well now (no pink/red areas),
eating well. :)

Hi B,

Your SUs looks nice and good growth. How is the girth? The shiro is very nice. You named them correctly. I think Ling Ling is a she and Hsing Hsing is a boy.

I named Ling-Ling with my fingers crossed that she would live up to the historical name in terms of gender. I really like this koi but wish 'she' were growing a bit more... wish both of them were. I think I'm spoiled. Most of my tosai grew between 5 and 7" this season... which I am extremely happy with. These guys grew on the lower end of that range and I'm not sure why. I guess health is what matters in the end (since they're growout LOSERS at this point) :)
With my fingers crossed, I report that they seem quite sturdy thus far.

Hey thanks for the kind words.

She still has a ways to go, but I'm just going to keep doing what I've been doing and hope that she does too!
