Oh goodie, another contest. What fun!
I'll have to sort thru my pics and see if there are any worth posting. Now are these suppose to be of our own koi? Or just any picture of koi that WE have taken ourselves?

Philip, this the BEST looking showa I have seen so far. For those that do not know, this koi placed second as the AKCA Koi of the year. I would have given it first place though. :)
If I'm correct, it's one of Toyoma's koi.....right?

Okay... can a longfin be included? I've heard they aren't considered Koi. I just got started in this but I have one baby that I think is totally beautiful (not show quality but good lookin' to me).
Oh what the heck. ;) I gotta show her off. Mind you, no fancy container.. just a big plastic bowl.
Her(?) name is Shinjou.

Yethirreee... it was you. I absolutely love that shot. I'll pass the info on to hubby. If you don't mind, I would like to forward that second photo on to my sis. She's a very amatuer painter. Although she's never painted Koi, that photo cries to be a painting. If she decides to try it and doesn't chuck it thinking it's not good enough (you know how artists can be) I'll get with you to see if you would like it. If not, count on it being on my wall. That photo is a piece of art. If she doesn't want to paint it. I'd like to buy a copy from you in about an 11x16 to mat and frame. :D Don't mean to gush but it's a very relaxing shot.

and you have to buy nothing.... Welll.... okay but I'll pay for the printing (and shipping) and must insist on it being signed by the talented photographer. That way when you get famous I will have a "Dale" ("Redneck"?) gracing my wall. :D :D Deal? If you email me, we can work out the details. I am also on IM most of the day since I am a programmer and live on my computer.

I use a Nikon D70 Digital SLR. Its really quick so you can take the shot at the moment. Interchangeable lens makes it even better. I have this because I had other nikon lenses I can use. If the price does not shock you then I would go with it. Keo

I'm wondering how the calander is going to be set up. Such as: Are you wanting natural looking pictures of koi in their enviroment? Bowled koi?
Personally I would like to see natural looking pictures for the main picture and maybe small pics of bowled koi (pics of koi in a tub or bowl) on a blank square where the days/numbers will go.
Who's the brains here? What do you see for the calendar?
CarolinaGirl
11-03-2004, 09:13 AM
Karen, I agree with you 100%. The artistic quality of some of those natural shots are suitable for framing! They are awesome! To see those majestic koi in their own environments is magical. I also like the idea of bowled koi as smaller pics, throughout the calender.

Majong,
Those are very nice pictures. How did you take those under water pictures? Do you have a waterproof camera?

This is one of Gene's fish. It sure has grown a lot. Notice my Gator Head reflection. It works great! I have ospreys, eagles and herons. Lucky me!

That little guy is between 22 and 24 inches. He was about 5 when I got him. He came all the way from Tenn in the mail. Along with some brothers and sisters.

Excellent LJ!
Now someone with other talent make a collage of the pictures. There isn't any way to only pick 12 pictures..maybe we need to make a new kind of calendar with 1/2 months..yah know 1st through the 15th, then the 16th throught the 30th?? That way we can get twice as many pictures??

Look below the Sumit Reply button and there is a button that says Manage Attachments. Click there and go to Browse. Find the file where you saved the image on your hard drive and double click. Then click on the Upload button.
Good Luck. :)
Found it!!! Looks simple enough.
What is the deadline for this? Or did I miss that part?

Interesting....
Early on in this thread, Kari Peters posted this picture of some sansai Nogami koi:

Then Cindy posted a picture from 2 years later that happens to contain one of the same koi as a 5 year old. Just found it cool.

I thought I would post a picture of Magic and friend.
OK Magic is no prize winner just a 'mutt' koi that I love, but she and her 'friend' sure took a cute picture. :)
Oh yes, those lilies are proof that koi can live with them and not destroy them :D .

now i havent read a whole bunch of the fine print on this service, cindy....
but we may have to check who owns the prints following and during the making of the calendar.....
some of these photo places actually in the fine print retain ownship, ie copyright of the print following using their services....
cindy
11-15-2004, 04:06 PM
You mean they'd sell our calendar?
Canadian RedNeck
11-15-2004, 04:10 PM
You mean they'd sell our calendar?
now sure about that.....not without reading the fine print....
but also the individual pics submitted to make the calendar as well....
that is a concern on all the photo forums i am on.....free places to upload pics for personal storage, etc....and some printing places......that they actually claim ownership of the picture if you upload anything to their servers....
now i am not saying that this particular one does, just that it is something to check out...
