i never had this before it was a 40 gal set up
my larrger pong have a reading of 8.0 they seem ok
this was my first time in 5 years that i got babies
when i pulled them out ther scales just rubed off

ph at 5 is considered a crash, too acidic.

Sounds like a pH crash - big time. Maybe acid rain. I would check your pond KH - yes KH. The KH is what stabilizes pH and prevents what happened in your little QT.

to raise the kh, use baking soda.

The big pond had enough volume to be able to take the rain obviously, but do check the KH on it as another storm could send it over the brink if it's kh is low.

The small pond with only 40 gallons didn't have enough buffering capability (that kh thing) to keep the ph steady with the addition of the rain.

Sorry you lost the babies.
