So we go to the louisville show for KOI and there is this bonsai vendor(now has joined us on koiphen oldbill57).always thought we would buy a few someday.well with the good prices he had we are now into that hobby also.even bought more in Indy.okay back to story .so others have posted here about finding things at a garden center that they hack away at and i keep looking and try and find these crooked unworthy of planting in the garden but might be fun to try at bonsai.
so we bought a few and now need to get some pots but thought we might try a few plants on our own.so any advice is welcome harsh is very welcome.think we got all 5 plants around $10 or so.
will put each plant on own post so we know which one you are talking about.also who cut it.
first pic is before ,second pic is after.

Hi Paul,

I would wire some movement into those trunks and branches while their still young and flexible. When they get older/larger will get more brittle and harder to bend.

When I'm looking at nursery stock I look for interesting trunks. Branches and even the nebar can be worked on to improve. but the trunk, for the most part, will always be what you get (with the exception of shari work).

Robert

PS, I like Shawna's tree's;)

No expert here, but think you are off to a good start with the first trim!! Yes, I think those soft branches need some adjustment now for the future shape.
