Gonna have a go at hatching a few! Domestic Kohaku Female- Japanese Soragoi, Japanese Sanke, Domestic Hi-Utsuri Males. I just partitioned off an area of the pond to hatch the fry... We will see if it works out!

are the ceramic koi to make them think they have real parents?

hahaha... Yes!

I saw the first hatchlings today! They are super hard to see! Transparent and about 1/4" long. I can see the egg sac- How long till they use that up?

be ready for a neat expereince. We had an uncontrolled spawn a couple of weeks ago. They are in Lin's water garden which was not intended for fish...It's fun to watch them develop.

Well- its been three and a half days- there are LOTS of tiny fry in there... They seem very uninterested in the Liquifry food- but they are swimming around a bit.... Im not too concerned, as there appears to be a TON of aquatic life in there- plus crazy algea. Not so much green water- mainly stringy stuff... but hopefully that will get them through the next couple of days...

any pointers are appreciated!!

The only suggestion I would make would be to make sure any unhatched eggs are removed. They will grow fungus on them and you'll wind up with a big die off with the fry that did hatch. It looks like you've got lots of good algae for them to munch around on and find micro-mini bugs, so I wouldn't worry about them rejecting the liquifry. Once they get hungry they'll start eating it.

2 Weeks old today!! Got some pics!

Now- with a Kohaku Female, and a Soragoi Male (Also a Hi and Sumi specklegoi...) What should I be looking for in the fry? Any chance of Ochiba? Im seeing mostly Yellow-Orange fry with either no markings, or lots of Sumi on the backs. There are a bunch of greenish-grey and black fry also... Any clues on what I should be looking for as keepers?

DISCLAIMER- This is for FUN and LEARNING only. Im hoping to keep three or four for myself to watch development over the next two years. The rest of the fry Im giving to a local pet shop. I understand these are not show fish....

Anyway- let me know what you think!

No comments eh? Does anyone know if the yellow fry will stay yellow? Or what Ochiba fry look like at first? And when they say an all black koi, like for utsuri, does that include the belly?

you've got a mixed bag going so this is just my best quess. The yellow could turn out to be kohaku, the green- chagoi, the black heads with yellow bodies-sanke, and the rest is up to lady luck, have fun, pick the biggest and best of the differnt colors and at this tage for the next month feed as much live food daphne and brine shrimp that you can find. After a month get the smallest pellet avaialable ( gold fish containers come in small batches than koi. let us know this fall what happened please....:)
