Anyone here grow Basjoo banana plant?
I've had this one since early spring. It's not dying. But it's not getting taller either. A new leaf will come up....and the bottom ones will droop to the ground and die. Then repeats over and over again.
Do you fertilize yours? Anything I should do?

I bought two at the Nashville Lawn & Garden Show this spring. Mine have grown more. Not real big yet, but growing. I have put a little miracle grow on them.

Actually, it is Musa basjoo, not Basjoo.
Should be hardy in your zone, since it is hardy here.:cool3:
Once it gets to be summer and consistently warm, it'll start growing.
And like any other plant, when new growth is produced, old growth dies.
As it gets taller, the lower leaves will die off. I don't allow my Musa basjoo lower leaves get ugly, once they start to look nasty, I trim them off. Seems to make the plant grow faster to me. I use Osmocote on mine, sprinkled around the trunks and then covered with my home made compost.
Mine got about 15' tall last year, maybe a bit taller.:D:

Yes - musa basjoo. I'm just a lazy typer.
Yes - it's hardy here. There is another person in town with one.
Guess -- I'll stop worrying and sit back and wait for it to grow.

Musa need lots of moisture and lots of fertilizer to go with that heat. Keep it watered and fed and it should really take off.
