Noticed my koi spawning, I quickly made a pair of spawning mops that are 10" x 20" -- a bunch of puff balls from yarn, attached them to sections of plastic fence. Sure enough they laid a bunch of eggs all over them, I put the two mops in an aquarium.

So.... at what point would be optimum to remove the mops from the aquarium? 2 weeks after hatch? 6 weeks? Also how to do you make sure to get all the fry out of the mops?

Also looking at the mops I made, was wondering if anyone has tried using strips of carpet as a spawning mop?

Thanks

Once the Koi have hatched (3-5 days after the spawn) they will eat their egg sacs. That is their first meal, but once it is eaten you need to remove the mops. Any infertile eggs will quickly begin to grow fungus and poison the water for you fry.
