I am starting this thread for Mike Shaw of Evolution Aqua. Mr. Shaw has agreed to lead a discussion about EA's revolutionary filters and koi keeping equipment. Check the announcement thread for date and time, and mark your calendars to make sure you're there! This is quite a coup for Koiphen.com, so let's all make him feel VERY welcome.
Please do not post to this thread until Mr. Shaw opens it up for group participation.

Dear All

Can I first say how much I’m looking forward to next week! It’s a real privilege to have been asked to do this and I’ll do my utmost not to let any question go unanswered to the best of my ability. I must give a quick and well deserved thanks to Jeff Rance for asking me to do this and to Lynda for helping me work my way through it. I only hope my repetitive questions to her haven’t put her off having future guests here!
I would like people to post questions right now and especially anything that they would like me to get in the way of data, information or photos prior to next week’s chat. I’ll try and answer as they go on, if not, I’ll do it all on the night (day for you lot) and then follow up after the live chat with anything that is unanswered. I’ll put some pictures up and a brief write up of Evolution Aqua in the next couple of days. Meantime if anyone wants me to get anything specific, please let me know either here or to my work email. mike@evolutionaqua.com
Many thanks and I look forward to speaking with you all next week.

Mike Shaw

p.s despite what you may have heard, I'm very sensitive so go easy on me please !

Hi Mike!!!

I am really looking forward to your chat on the Nexus!!!

I have just received my very first Nexus (((the Baby))) for my new koi pond. I would first like to comment on how well these units are constructed!!! It is like a tank!!! AND the attention to detail and just sleek eye appealing design is wonderful!!!

I am sure I will have more questions after we get this Baby up and running, but could you please tell me (((us))) if there are any steps that should be taken from the get~go to set it up for better or optimum performance???

I am planning for a gravity flow from the bottom drain to it...

Mike:) I am looking forward to your chat gig! Thanks.

I was kind of wondering if you had anything on the drawing board in the way of future products that you would like to share! I do realize that sharing that info probably would not be a very smart thing for you to do, competition wise, unless you are almost there, whereas, an introduction of the product may have a positive result!

Thanks Again for Sharing Your Time:)

By the way, I enjoyed helping you out so that you would feel comfortable doing this chat. You can e-mail me and ask me questions anytime! After all, that 's why Stephen pays us moderators the "big bucks!" :p (Disclaimer: No moderator is paid anything, no big bucks, no special privileges, nada, zip, nothing. Sensitive from what I have seen you sure are. LOL

Mike I have been hearing EA is coming out with a lot of new products. One being the pond sieve. I would like to know a lot more about this. What about a new try of bottom drain, I heard they is something going around about one.

I have to say when everyone talked about your Nexus filters being good I didn't know what to think. I thought it might just be hype from a few. But since I put two on my pond I have never seen a filter better for biological. I never seen a ammonia spike on my pond. I did see a nitrite spike for less than two days. That was the real shocker to me.

I do have a little bit of a problem with clarity though. I'm hoping this can be fixed without adding a bead filter to the pond. Since the pond is new I will give it a little more time. It has been getting a little better. I also think it would help if I had the Answers on the filters, but it's not in the budget right now.

I hope you can find time to answer the questions a lot of have.

Welcome to the board!

Tom

Just last week, famed British physicist Stephen Hawking announced that he had reversed a position he had held for decades when he said that black holes do not, in fact, devour information never to return it. Given this shocking turn of events, my question to Mr. Shaw would be how we can ever again trust the British to develop and hold-fast the tenants of both the physical and philosophical universe in which we supposedly inhabit?

Yours Truly,

How about a bit of history on kaldnes media. Any tips you might be willing to share with people wanting to add a kaldnes boiler to their existing system (I assume this is acceptable since EA apparently has sole distribution rights for kaldnes.

Unfortunately, I will be away from civilization during this chat. I will not only not have access to a computer but I won't have access to electricity or running water.
How can I access the chat thread once I return?

Handsome Mike, We have come a long way in our understanding of biological filtration. Half that journey was about separating out organics from inorganics to manage them better. Organics marked for removal in the prebiological filtration stage and then - Inorganic toxins in the biological stage. that freed us up to concentrate on EFFICIENCY of inorganic toxin removal ( ammonia/nitrite).

My question is- since organics can get VERY small, what is the best way to deal with 'fines' in the water when using a nexus filter since part of the high efficiency associated with Kladnes is the fact that it is non trapping?

Thanks for sharing your time in the upcoming chat!

How does the Nexus stand up to the elements? Does it need to be in a covered structure for those that are in the colder zones? In winter would it then need to be drained and cleaned , lines blown, or totally disassembled and stored?

To download the EA Brochure go to http://www.koiphen.com/jpennington/eabro.pdf

Mike,
I've heard rumors that EA is working on an improved high-performance version of the micro-screen "Answer", code named “Answer 410-Z”. My understanding is that a US manufacturer is collaborating on the design and manufacture of the yet-to-be announced unit. Through various sources (which I'm not at liberty to divulge) I have been provided photos of this revolutionary new design. As a result, would you be willing to discuss some of the features of this new unit?

Regards,
Bill D.
