I love them!
I have recently bought a few miniature species Rhododendrons and azaleas on eBay.
Don't plan on bonsai-ing them...just let them grow natural.

I used to go to the San Francisco Garden Show every year, and they had quite an exhibition of bonsai. My favorites were the azaleas, the ginko, and someone had a bonsai redwood forest that was spectacular! Someday I gotta learn how to do that...
Hey, Joe - good to see you again! I've missed you...

That's exquisite, thanks, Joe! One of my high school friend's dad was quite a bonsai expert - born and raised in Japan. Unfortunately, I was too young and dumb to really learn much from Mr. Takeda at the time. Now, of course, I'd love to sit with him in his patio and learn everything he knew...

The juniper is your best bet. Very hardy and you dont have to water as much.

Oh WOW - the azaleas are lovely but the redwood is STUNNING!

I do not have the discipline for bonsai. I'm doing good to keep plants alive in the ground.
