Glass galore in England

Came across this in one of the channels I follow, very striking with all that glass, missed a trick not putting some under the window in the "pond room". Will be interesting to see once the water has cleared and the fish are in

Windows are probable going to be a nightmare to keep clean if mine is anything to go by.

Lousy designed pond to view,you need tall bar stools to sit next to the pond and enjoy the tranquility of the fish for any length of time.

You really want to look into a pond, not across it,from a higher vantage point.

Windows are suited to beautiful marine fish not dowdy koi,which are viewed best from above.

Interesting, I am happy with my in-ground pond here in Italy but was thinking that if in our old age we return to England I would build the pond there up to about 2' above ground with some glass. As it is not going to happen for a fair few years if it ever will it will give me the chance to see how these half glazed ponds turn out in the long run

I never understand the attraction with glass in a pond...koi just look strange from the sides. :D:

Its a novelty when you are building,

TOO expensive to redo after you have built.

Check the bodies out for abnormality's

Ulcers,etc

A real pain cleaning them.

The higher the pond is raised the angle of viewing sitting or standing changes and top viewing has a lot more surface glare. One must be against the pond and leaning over the edge on this pond for a decent top view.

Since the beginning of koi keeping we are programmed to view, judge and appreciate koi viewed from the top.

I agree, still very happy with my in ground pond. If I want to check the underside of my fish I will install the underwater camera that has been sitting in a drawer for months now. Coming back to the possibility of one day going back to England and building a pond there, probably it will be in moderate part above ground, what elevation would you say is still acceptable?

Looks nice, but give me an unlimited budget for a koi pond, and I would have done a few things differently.

Totally agree, I probably would not have gone more than one foot above ground so not to skewer the angle of vision on the surface too much but still be able to see the fish side on when they come to the surface, maybe have a deeper window facing the garden below and maybe a "porthole" or two by the surface by the garden room.

I love the glass sides.
But if I had a bigger budget, I'd put the surrounding deck on hydraulic lifts so it can be raised or lowered as you prefer - you can choose how much or how little of the pond sides you want to see during the day.

One of my neighbours did something similar inside his swimming pool. When he doesn't want to swim, he raises up an internal floor so he can use the pool area as a deck
