I recently upgraded my filter system from SC/Nexus to RDF/Shower. I made shower myself.

1. Design sketches. There are two shower units, up unit and low unit. Up unit supply water to three exiting TPRs and low unit has a duck bill.

I am using BE 500w 4flow pump. I guess two showers can handle about 12000 to 15000 gph.

Line up these holes are not difficult, just draw lines and follow them. I also chamfer hole edges on both sides. The chamfer will prevent allege stuck on the edges of holes.

Nice job! Looks like it took you longer to draw all the "lay lines" than to drill the holes!lol

Could I ask what you used to seal the joints?

This shower is an ideal design for minimizing 1) noise 2) evaporation 3) water cooling effect in winter time. :like:

What size hole saw did you use for the 2" pipe? Also how did you hold the pipe in the box? Pvc glue? Thanks Ken P.S. great job!!!!!!

I believe I used 2-3/8" hole saw to drill for 2" pipes. If you don't not have exact size, you can buy one from Lowes or HD.

how big is your pond. and can you show the plumbing to the tpr's? thanks cool design

Hi, Kevin

I took some pictures to show you how I connect my shower to my TPRs. I only have three TPRs

I connected two outlets into in one TPR.
554231

Other two outlets are connected separately.
554232

One of them is connected as a bypass. If I need do PP or other med treatment. I can bypass the shower filter.

Your craftsmanship is very good on this shower, and imitation is the most sincere form of flattery ;)

Just make sure you keep the water level inside the shower as low as possible to avoid too much pressure on those glue joints. PVC glue works so well in pipe fittings due to the large surface area of the glue joint. In your case you only have the width of the butt joint as a seal, so it will not take as much pressure. Good job though.

I have to say that I liked your work. How are the showers working? I need to this on my pond, my question was how to glue the PVC but I got all I needed here so thank you for sharing. I have access to PVC panels so I should be easier to do.

Sorry, I am just a hobbyist. I could not make commercial units. Truly, it is not difficult to DIY. I will answer any questions you need to know.

Thanks for asking.

If you can work with wood you can build one. The pvc trim board is basically the same. Its actually nice because it doesn't spilt and creates water tight seams with pvc cement.

Thanks for the info MAO83515. I can't wait to hook mine up and test it out!

The downside is that all the common structural plastics (PP, HDPE, and PVC) are rather soft and unless the panels are heavily braced, can distort and bow - sometimes catastrophically - with water pressure.

very true, it just depends on how its built. If properly made for your flow rate there shouldn't be much water in the actual filter. It should be draining as fast as it comes in. But yes it will warp or bow with constant pressure.

I'm sorry for reviving this thread but I want to build something similar, any updates on how it's working? Any recommendations or things to do differently?

I'm probably going to build a low-profile version due to the very high cost of electricity, else it's consumed pumping water to the top of a traditional multi-level shower.

Keep in mind that PVC is widely available through plastic outlets up to 4' x 8' sheets, so pretty much the sky's the limit for what you can build. Plus, if you make an accurate drawing and send it to the shop, they'll accurately cut the panels for you for about $2 a cut. This can save a lot of time and avoids accidental or inaccurate cuts.

Yes, we can get panels of PVC here as well. As far as drawings go I’m an engineer so those won’t be a problem. But I really wanted to know if he had any issues with the panels leaking or any input on what he would do differently if he had to do it again.

The filter is still working well. There is no leaking at all. Only little problem is the top cover bowed a little. Since covers are closed with rabbit joint no water leak out from the top. I opened cover last months after two years running. Cer-media has some erosion, but not sever. I guess my top distribution tray distributed water gently. It helped a lot.

If media has to be replaced, I will replace with RIO Ceramic Media.

Great, the bowing is the PVC exposed to the sun and thats to be expected. In my case the filter will be in the garage so no sun will hit it. Now to build mine. Any pointers or what you would do differently?
