My question is about, the 5 red earred sliders we have (they vary in size from 3 inches to about 5 inches0 .My grandson worked at a Petco here in Texas, and 3 people brought in red earred sliders they had raised from quarter size and no longer wanted. Beings we had a large pond he brought them to us. The pond now has a hole at the bottom or really close to it, we have discussed eliminating the pond, but are not sure how the turtles would fare if we realeased them at the local nature preserve. I am torn as to whether it would be better to keep them captive, while my husband says it would be kinder to release them into the wild. your opinions would be appreciated. Thank you

they all came from our area, but I am concerned that they are used to being fed , and will approach people for food. before they were brought to us they had all been aquarium raised. will they instinctly know how to find food?

Mixed opinions. Try to rehome on craigslist or a rescue. https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100923103940AAhlkKc

I think they would be fine released too a small lake or mud pond. Remember they hatch from eggs and are on their own from that point on. Nobody teaches they too hunt of what too eat it all comes naturally.
