Looking for an Ochiba, preferably Tosai. I would like one with the rootbeer coloring from the Chagoi side. I would like a fairly good mix between the rootbeer and the silver that balances well so niether the Chagoi or Soragoi side seem too dominant. Budget is negotiable, but I will be up front on being picky. My top breeder will not have anything available until Sept/Oct and I am willing to wait if I don't see something that really catches me. I will leave this thread open until I pick one out. PM me any pics and prices. Thanks....Jim

What about Sundan? Is he still in the koi business? He had some beautiful ones last year. And he is in Florida, too :)

Birdman of Colorado was selling Ochiba/chagoi last year. He has beautiful fish.

Sundan is out of koi until pond pulls this fall. Birdman in CO is non-responsive. Sundan is top choice, but not an option for another 3 months or so.

I have had trouble finding fish here too. If I wait 3 months it will be cold season here and ponds will be getting closed up.

So Jim:

Are you leading the charge for an Ochiba grow out this Fall? Or next Spring?

I am going to give another bump on this. Still looking and will take another look at the Koi Show this weekend. Answering prior statements, Sundan from what I heard had flooding and lost most of the parent stock and he is breeding mainly for his own enjoyment/hobby now. I hope to run into him at the show next weekend. I heard from BirdmanofCO who said he was selling, but then never got me any information.

Jim,

If your willing to wait for about 6-8 months I'll have a huge crop.

The attached pic is of the female Oyagoi, she produces some great offspring. I don't know your preference for Ochiba but she does produce traditional patterns and very interesting patterns.

I am going to look until I find. Once you have some kids, if this thread is still open, then I am still looking and you can send some pics.

Don't have a clue. At the time I bought her, I wasn't into where the parent came from. Only saw the parents and got their permission to marry her.........

I knew one of them was, it was Todd's bloodline for breeding. http://www.birdmanstudios.com/chagoi-site/chagoi.html

I was just looking back at his stuff the other month, this one stuck out...

It took awhile to find it, but I believe Dan's Ochiba/Chagoi were from the Hosakai. At the point of the thread, he had not yet introduced the Doitsu Saragoi that I can tell and I cannot find a reference to its breeder.

That is the same off spring of the thread I found, but still no mention of the Doitsu Soragoi's origins. The Doitsu Soragoi and the Hosakai Ochibe were the parent stock I believe for Creekds Ochiba "Olivia". Its the same parent stock as my Soragoi and Chagoi. Maybe if I run though his profile over there I can find a mention to the Doitsu's origins. If not, I will just ask him at the show this weekend if he is there.

That was fast, it linked to his FB account where he had all of the parent stock labeled with breeder. The Doitsu Soragoi was Shinoda.

Is he still in business?

Dan is closed from what I am told. City came in and started charging for storm water for his pond run offs and then a flood came in and took out a bunch of his parent stock. So not sure what is left of the parent stock at this point. I know he breeds a little still more for the joy of the hobby, but he didn't get a booth last year or this year for Orlando. I haven't seen him since 2012 before it all hit, hopefully I get a chance to see him at the show.

I talked to Dan before the CFKS, and he & I were both looking for a shiro. I do not believe he will be breeding professionally, just as a hobbiest. He was not sure if he would make it to the show, because of problems with his truck.

I on the other hand bought a 15" Shiro from Quality Koi, and an 25" Ochiba from Kodama. Again, I did not plan to spend any money at the show.......ah.....
